The book we are all reading for March is Reading Month will be revealed today at our Kick-Off Assembly! The clues are: a rubber chicken, a birthday party invitation, joke glasses with a nose and mustache, a cow, and a notebook. We had the Lapeer County Education Attainment Fund (LEAF) kickoff for our Begindergarten and Kindergarten classes today. They are being gifted with a Childhood Savings Account with $25 seed money to be used after high school for educational expenses. The next deposit day for grades up through 4th grade is Thursday, March 7. #proudcardinal

Lapeer County Education Attainment Fund WHAT: Education savings account used after high school graduation. Used for career training costs, trade school, certification, traditional 2/4 year college tuition, fees, books. WHY: Children with savings accounts from $1-$499 are 3 times more likely to attend college and 4 times more likely to graduate. We believe in the future of every child in Lapeer County and this program demonstrates that commitment. WHEN: In January 2021, all kindergartners, will have a depositonly savings account opened in their name. The initial $25 seed money will be provided by the Lapeer County Community Foundation. HOW: Financial education will be provided in the classroom and community to inspire lasting success. Topics will include responsible saving & spending, as well as the dangers of debt.
